Cocheco Valley Humane Society is thrilled to host a pet first-aid and CPR course at the shelter on Sunday, April 10, 2016. This 5-hour course runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will be taught by April Begosh of Healthy Pets NH. The cost to participate is $65 with $20 from the registration fee being donated to CVHS. Registration includes a workbook and 2-year certification in pet first-aid and CPR. Lunch will be provided by CVHS.

Topics covered during the course include restraining your pet, rescue breathing, choking management, heat injuries, poisoning, bleeding protocols, bites and stings, and more. Lessons will be taught using a combination of lecture, demonstrations, and hands-on practice. No animals are allowed at this course, so please leave Fido and Fluffy at home for the day.

Whether you are a pet owner or someone who works with pets in any way, a basic knowledge of pet first-aid and CPR can be beneficial. In an emergency situation, valuable time is wasted on the drive to the vet or, if it's after hours, the nearest emergency vet. Knowledge of CPR and pet-first aid, which can be administered immediately by you instead of waiting for the vet, can mean the difference between life and death for your pet.

Space is limited at this class; however, the shelter hopes to offer other classes in the future. To register, please contact Mary Goyette at outreach@cvhsonline.org or call 603-749-5322, ext. 111.
