Plans for city's tricentennial celebration begin to take shape; event planned for 2028

ROCHESTER - Mayor Paul Callaghan announced earlier this week that plans are under way for a celebrations of the city's 300th birthday.

An ad-hoch committee will be organized in the next several months to begin planning for the iconic event, which will take place sometime during 2028.

According to the mayor, the committee will comprise a variety of representatives from city staff, elected officials, business owners and community volunteers.

"The year 2028 marks the 300th anniversary of our settlement," said Callaghan. "The first task of the committee will be to set up a meeting schedule and plan a public listening session in order to get ideas from the community."

Callaghan says he wants the celebration to "reflect the attitude and pride of the people of Rochester".

The first meeting and a list of committee members will be announced in the next several weeks.
