Police accuse man of killing his grandmother with hammer

EASTON - The Attorney Generals Office and local police are investigating a suspicious death of an adult female on Friday in the town of Easton.

Police first got involved around 11:40 a.m. when 911 received a phone call for a medical emergency at 44 North Peak Drive. Upon arriving at the residence, State Police entered and found Cynthia Lanchester, 76, laying on the ground, deceased. She appeared to be suffering from a blunt force trauma wound. State Police also encountered Ms. Lanchester's grandson, 23-year-old Joshua Lanchester.

Later on Friday Joshua Lanchester was arrested and charged with one count of second-degree murder for allegedly causing the death of Cynthia Lanchester with a hammer.

Joshua Lanchester is currently being held without bail and an arraignment is anticipated to be scheduled on Monday in the 2nd Circuit Court - District Division in Littleton.

An autopsy is scheduled to take place today.

Additional information will be released as it becomes available while protecting the integrity of the investigation.


The woman's body was found at a residence on North Peak Drive.
The exact circumstances surrounding this incident remain under active investigation, according to a statement from the Dept. of Safety released on Saturday.
Responding officers have determined that there appears to be no threat to the public.
