Police deploy 2nd surveillance trailer, this one to Hanson Pines, due to safety issues

ROCHESTER - The Rochester Police Department will be installing a mobile camera unit at Hanson Pines Park to address recent incidents and public safety concerns.

According to a statement released by the city today, the unit will provide around-the-clock audio and video recording of the park area and serve as a safety measure to help deter unsafe activity. The camera is temporary and will remain in place while city staff continue to monitor the situation.

Police recently deployed another surveillance trailer to the former Ben Franklin plaza on Wakefield Street where vandalism occurred in July.

In addition, with the support of the Recreation & Arena Commission, the Recreation Department has updated the park rules and hours as follows:

General Park Rules

  • Hanson Pines Basketball Court and Playground will be closed daily from 8:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.
  • Use park at your own risk.
  • Follow instructions of City Staff.
  • Be courteous of others-no profanity or disruptive behavior.
  • No physical violence or fighting.
  • No smoking or any type of electric vaping.
  • No alcohol or drugs.
  • No fires or grilling allowed.
  • Dispose of all trash. No glass containers.
  • No pets allowed in Playground or on Basketball Courts.

Additional Rules

Playground:

  • Play equipment is for children ages 5-12 years old.
  • Anyone 18 years of age or older must be accompanied by and supervising a child.
  • All children must be supervised by an adult.
  • Do not use equipment when wet.
  • Proper footwear required. Closed toed shoes or sneakers recommended.
  • No pushing, shoving or rough housing.
  • Bikes, scooters or other wheeled recreation vehicles are not allowed on the playground surface.

Basketball Court:

  • No dunking or hanging on rims.
  • Proper footwear required.
