RAYMOND - A Raymond woman pleaded guilty and was sentenced in Rockingham County Superior Court for assaulting a town election officer at its March Town Meeting.

During the March 28, 2023, Raymond Town and School Elections, Tina Thomas, 54, struck Raymond Town Moderator Pro Tem Jonathan Wood in the face with her hand.

The State charged Thomas with knowingly causing unprivileged physical contact to a town officer who was discharging his duties of office at an election.

"Assaulting an election official is a serious offense that strikes at the heart of our democratic process," said Attorney General John Formella. "This plea and sentence send a clear message that such conduct will not be tolerated in New Hampshire. Election officials must be able to carry out their duties safely and without fear of violence or intimidation."

As part of a negotiated plea, Thomas was sentenced to 12 months in the house of corrections, all suspended for one year on the condition of good behavior and compliance with the terms of the sentencing order. She must also have no contact with the victim for the period of suspension and complete ten hours of community service.

Additionally Thomas lost her right to vote in New Hampshire.
