Relay for Life cancer-fighting event set for September

ROCHESTER - Relay for Life of Rochester will be holding its annual event on Sept., 25 from Noon-8 p.m. at Niver Field/Tri-City Christian Academy bringing back all of the things the community loves about a traditional Relay for Life event. The theme of this year's event is "Power Through Together."

The American Cancer Society Relay for Life movement is the world's largest peer-to-peer fund-raising event dedicated to saving lives from cancer. For over 35 years, communities across the world have come together to honor and remember loved ones and take action for lifesaving change.

Funds raised through Relay for Life directly support breakthrough research, 24/7 support for cancer patients, access to lifesaving screenings, and much more.

In addition to the main event on Sept. 25, the Relay for Life of Rochester leadership committee invites the community to a Kick Off event on Aug. 25 at 6 p.m. at Tri-City Christian Academy at 150 West High St. in Somersworth. There they can learn more about the 2021 event and tour the field, which is in a new location this year.

Anyone who is a cancer survivor or currently battling the disease is also invited to attend the Sept. 25 event by RSVPing for the Survivor lap and luncheon, which will take place at noon. Email shawna.zechman@cancer.org if you plan to attend.
An afternoon full of fun activities, the Sept. 25 event will conclude with the traditional luminaria lap - with participants walking the track in silence...remembering and honoring those lost to cancer. The Studio 109 hush angels will be leading this beautiful, reflective experience.
