ROCHESTER - Rochester Main Street announced recently that the city's cleanup day is set for April 22 when volunteers will gather to clean up winter debris and make the downtown beautiful.

Rochester Cares is an annual "day of caring" where community members, nonprofits, and business groups volunteer their time to give Rochester a spring cleaning.

RMS board president Jeff Bisson describes Rochester Cares as "a great way for citizens to get involved and better their community."

"Rochester Cares is an annual event that brings together people of all walks to clean up downtown and other nearby areas," said Bisson. "It's an incredible team effort."

Prospective volunteers are encouraged to meet for instructions/assignments at the Parson Main monument in Central Square. Main Street will be providing large bags for trash cleanup. The City of Rochester will be donating bark mulch for volunteers to spread in public gardens and tree wells.

According to Bisson, volunteers are encouraged to bring their own gloves, rakes, and wheelbarrows.

"All are welcome. No RSVP required," said Bisson. "We encourage individuals, families, and business/nonprofit teams to join us. Wear comfortable clothes and footwear."

The event will take place on April 22 from 9 a.m. to noon.

Rochester Main Street is a 501c3 nonprofit organization sponsored by the Economic Development Department, City of Rochester, New Hampshire. Visit www.rochestermainstreet.org and rec.rochesternh.gov to learn more.
