DOVER - A 31-year-old Rochester man is facing decades in prison after his recent indictment on weapons and drug charges.
Joshua Clyde Kuchman, 31, of Portland Street, was arrested on charges of being a felon in possession and fentanyl possession after an encounter with police on Jan. 15.
Kuchman had previously been convicted of a felony theft by deception charge in 2018, which prohibited him from having deadly weapons in his possession.
According to the initial criminal complaint he had both brass knuckles and a knife.
According to an affidavit written by Rochester Patrol Officer Aidan Birmingham, Kuchman was spotted on Union Street in downtown Rochester on Jan. 15 around noon.
Off. Birmingham believed that Kuchman may have had warrants out for him and quickly confirmed he had two bench warrants and a Class A felony warrant out of Somersworth.
Birmingham and another officer caught up with Kuchman in the area of Barker Court, where Kuchman refused to identify himself. Subsequently officers confirmed it was him through booking photos and a neck tattoo, according to the affidavit.
While searching him pursuant to the arrest he was found with a seven- or eight-inch dagger-type knife and brass knuckles.
Officers also found a container with several hypodermic needles and two grams of fentanyl.
Kuchman's intial arraignment in Strafford Superior Court is set for Tuesday.
All three felony charges carry a three and a half to seven-year prison sentence apiece.
The most recent indictments were handed down on April 17 and released to the public on Friday.
An indictment is not an indication of guilt, but rather that enough evidence has been presented to a grand jury to move forward to trial.
