BERWICK, Maine - A Rochester man has been arrested in the shooting death of a 37-year-old Maine man, who died after being taken to Wentworth-Douglass Hospital where he succumbed to his wounds.
The fatal shooting unfolded on Thursday around 8 a.m. when Berwick Police responded to a residence on Katabel Lane in Berwick for a report of a male with a gunshot wound to the head.
Found injured at the scene was Mark Forest, 37, who was taken to the Dover, N.H., hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
An autopsy was conducted today with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in New Hampshire ruling the death a homicide. On Thursday, the day of the shooting, Maine and New Hampshire State Police Detectives, worked with Rochester Police and Berwick Police throughout the morning conducting interviews in both states.
From these interviews detectives learned that 31-year-old Daniel Lafrenier of Rochester, was a person of interest in the case spurring an effort to locate him.
Some time later today the York Police Department received a complaint of a subject forcing entry into a residence on the York Road in York and responded to find Lafrenier attempting to gain entry into the home. Lafrenier was transported to the York Police Department for an interview and later charged with murder in Forest's death.
Lafrenier was transported to the York County Jail and will be held without bail until his initial court appearance set for today.
