ROCHESTER - A Rochester man has been arrested in a hit-and-run accident earlier this month on North Main Street in Rochester’s downtown.

Police released this photo of a car with front end damage with a press release.

Richard D. Garland, 20, of 10 Silver St., Rochester, was arrested last night around 7:30 p.m.

He is charged with one count of Conduct After an Accident, a class B felony, as well as one count of Driving After Revocation or Suspension (second offense), which is a class A misdemeanor.

The incident occurred on Sept. 19 around 6 p.m. on North Main Street, when the vehicle Garland was operating struck a female pedestrian who was crossing North Main Street in the crosswalk near Pine Street, police said.

A picture police released with the arrest press release shows a black car with front end damage. Witnesses at the scene said they saw a black Nissan Pathfinder flee southbound after the incident.

Katherine Littlefield, 25, of Somersworth was seriously injured in the crash. She was Medflighted to Maine Medical Center in Portland for treatment of injuries.

A nursing supervisor said last Friday and Saturday that Littlefield was in satisfactory condition, but on Monday said she was not a patient at the hospital any longer.

Efforts by The Lebanon Voice to learn Littlefield's condition since Monday have been unsuccessful.

Garland was held on $5,000 cash bail and is scheduled for video arraignment today in the Rochester Circuit Court.

This accident remains under investigation, and additional arrests are possible, police said.
