Sanford police probe Friday shooting incident

SANFORD, Maine - Sanford Police today continue to investigate a shooting that occurred Friday at the intersection of Main and Lebanon streets just west of the downtown.

Police responded around 4:50 p.m for a report of a male who had been shot. Witnesses on scene said they saw a man in the intersection walking in and out of the roadway while yelling at vehicles and carrying a knife. The male approached a food truck that was parked in the parking lot of T-Mobile where a confrontation erupted with the owner of the truck and the male with the knife.

The male with the knife was shot, according to police, who said the shooter is cooperating with detectives as they gather evidence and conduct interviews. The male shot was transported to Maine Medical Center in Portland where he is listed in serious condition.

Police say there is no current risk to the public.
