ROCHESTER - From nattily clad bartenders to art deco stylings to cloth napkins secured by a napkin ring, stepping into the Scenic Lounge is a trip back to a gilded past.
The quality of the cuisine makes this downtown oasis all the more appealing.
The site of the former Scenic Theater, the Scenic Lounge is a small, intimate space that conjures a romantic past from the Gay 90s to the Roaring 20s to the era of F. Scott Fitzgerald and The Great Gatsby.
After taking our seats at the bar, our server, Christina, was quick to welcome us and explain the happy hour specials that were available.

Mayan Tuna Stack makes for a memorable treat for the taste buds

We decided to share a Mayan Tuna Stack, which comprised Ahi tuna, fresh avocado, fire-roasted sweet corn, black beans, pablano and red pepper, queso fresco and citrus cilantro mojo, with blue corn chips on the side.
It's a tall stack, so we opted to use spoons to dish it onto the corn chips, so we could get all the flavors top to bottom.
Wow! I have no other words to describe it.
The taste was - as the old candy bar commercial says - indescribably delicious.
And the drinks were no slouch either!
Martha got a Cosmo, which is made with vodka, orange liqueur, cranberry and lime juice, which she found very light and refreshing. (During happy hour they're $7; btw my Pino was just $5.)
Throughout our stay, the service was top notch with Christina remaining attentive and gracious.
The Scenic Lounge is located at 10 North Main St. in downtown Rochester.
Their home page promises they'll deliver expertly mixed curated cocktails and elevated bites.
Well, they put their money where their mouth is, as far as we're concerned.
Note, they are closed till Friday for improvements, according to their website.
So it's going to get even better? Hard to imagine.
