DOVER - Sherman Roger Lucius Jr., 73, of Dover, died at his home on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2025. Born on Oct. 23, 1951, in Berlin, he was the son of the late Sherman and Sophie (Savchick) Lucius and was baptized and raised as a member of the St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Dover.
A graduate of Dover High School's class of 1969, Sherm was considered one of the Top 5 All-Time Green Wave first basemen and was the first high school player to hit a homerun on Dunaway Field. Also excelling on the football field in both the fullback and tight-end positions, Sherm was a starter on the 1968 undefeated State Championship DHS football team. After high school, Sherm continued to demonstrate his love for sports by giving back to his community coaching youth football and basketball teams.
Prior to his retirement, Sherm worked as a Construction Safety Manager at SAI Communications and was part of the American Society of Safety Engineers.
Sherm was an avid fly fisherman and also loved spending time with his loving and faithful companion, his dog, Samantha.
Sherman is predeceased by his parents Sherman and Sophie (Savchick) Lucius, and his brothers Steve and Stuart Lucius.
Left to cherish his memory are his children Stephanie Knapp and Stacie Lucius, brother Scott Lucius and sister-in-law Sue Lucius, grandchildren Cole and Noah Knapp, and several nieces and nephews.
