DOVER - Shirley L. Hamilton, 89, of Dover, died Monday April 15, 2024, at the Wentworth Home, where she has resided since January 2021.
Shirley was the daughter of Charlotte MacDonald Hamilton and Raymond Hamilton.
After graduating from Dover High School in 1952, Shirley's entire 43 years of employment was with the University of New Hampshire. She held many responsible positions, her last being Director of Transportation Services.
She was admired for exemplary work ethics, integrity and being a "team player".
Shirley was a lifelong member of the Dover Advent Christian Church, later known as Hope Community Church. Shirley used her gifts to honor her Lord, by teaching, singing, moderating meetings, encouraging youth, and serving on the board of directors at Vernon Home in Vernon, Vt. She was always ready to provide rides to church.
She and her dear friend Dorothy Stevens spent many years in their cabin at Alton Bay Campgrounds enjoying activities.
She enjoyed bus trips with the Philbrick sisters of Rye, NH and spent February "get-a-way" time with Marie and Bill Hunter in Bradenton, Fla.
In her earlier years she attended UNH hockey games, was a member for several years of candlepin bowling leagues and golf leagues. Shirley enjoyed fishing with her friend Dora Bryant of Berwick, Maine.
Surviving friends include Dorene and Jim Allen of Dover, NH and Marie and Clyde Walton of Meadville, Pa.
Shirley's last few years were spent at the Wentworth Home, where the administration and staff gave her a friendly, caring, and loving environment. She always complimented on how well they took care of fellow residents.
