ELIOT, Maine - Shirley (Jones) Jacques, formerly of Eliot, died in Biddeford at age 93. She was born in Melrose, Mass., in 1931, the daughter of Sherman and Marion (Duffill) Jones. Her sister, Beverly Federau of East Lansing, Mich., survives her. Her husband, William Jacques, died in 2019 and her brother, Sherman Davis Jones, died in 2022.

Shirley graduated in journalism from Boston University and began a long career in reporting, advertising and public relations at the Stomeham Independent and BBDO in Boston. She later worked at length as editor of corporate publications for Howard Johnson's in Boston.

After moving to Eliot, Shirley served as a reporter for the Portsmouth Herald for several decades. She was a longtime member of the Public Relations Society of America.
