ROCHESTER - Rochester Police are currently looking into a small engine repair scam that is reportedly occurring in the city.
The Rochester Voice has also learned of other small engine repair scams in the area in which a repairman will examine the small engine such as a lawn mower, and say he can repair the engine quickly and at nominal cost, but will need payment for a part of parts.
The repairman then takes the money, but never comes back to do the work promised.
A local resident told The Rochester Voice he'd lost $600 after he paid for the part in advance.
He said when he tried to call the repairman back, he blocked his phone.
Rochester Police Capt. Todd Pinkham said today the investigation into the scam is ongoing, but these types of thievery happen often.
"We see scams like this all the time at various points throughout the year," Pinkham said. "They are mostly related to any trade type scams such as small engine/auto repair, driveway paving, roofing, and construction."
