Somersworth Police shut down Facebook comments due to unsavory posts

SOMERSWORTH - The Somersworth Police Department has banned all comments on its Facebook page due to iinappropriate and/or sexual comments, and other various forms of abuse on posts about the community and police business.

Somersworth Police Chief John Sunderland announced the decision in a Facebook post on Friday.

He added that the Police Facebook page had become more of a forum of unmoderated public exchanges rather than for its intended purpose of informing the public.

Residents can still submit tips or comments by contacting the department directly through Facebook Messenger or the "Submit a Tip" link on the Somersworth Police Department website.
