Somrsworth Police, feds probing back to back car fire, ATM theft

SOMERSWORTH - Somersworth, state and federal agencies are investigating a car fire and ATM theft that occurred just minutes apart in the early morning hours on Thursday.

Police say that at 3:01 a.m. Somersworth Police responded to a vehicle fire at 24 Washington St. The Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire, which was determined to be suspicisous.

Then just three minutes later police responded to burglar alarms at the Service Credit Union at 15 Penny Lane, where they found that an ATM located in the drive-through area had been removed.

Surveillance video shows the ATM was removed by the use of a pickup truck. The ATM and truck were discovered a short distance away, but the suspects were able to avoid detection.

Both of these matters are under investigation by the Somersworth Police as well as multiple other local and federal agencies.

Police did not release whether the crooks got away with any cash.
