SENDING A MESSAGE THE WRITE WAY: Young students pass notes during class back in yesteryear (Courtesy photo)

First off, I want to take my hat off to all the students in the Rochester School District who got through their first week of school with no catastrophic incidents reported due to cellphone withdrawal at city schools.
As a student-teacher in recent years at many area schools including Spaulding High, I always suspected students in my classroom were texting each other about the goofy sub and what they could get away with.
Of course, you know that when I was in school hundreds of years ago, we never treated our subs any differently than our regular teacher. Not!
But the important thing I want to impress upon the students of today is that even without phones, not all is lost.
That's right, you can avoid some of the cellphone withdrawal symptoms by learning to pass notes to each other during class.
Not only is this process less obtrusive, it's less likely you'll get caught.
For instance, you can be writing a note to a classmate while the teacher is lecturing and they'll think you're righting notes about what she's lecturing about. It's brilliant.
And sooner or later the teach will write something on the blackboard and boom! ... that's when you pass the note.
And there are other benefits. You may learn how to write better. Maybe even learn to write cursive, just to impress classmates.

Was Belichick the chump and Brady the brains behind the Patriots six Super Bowl wins in the Brady-Belichick era?
This is a trending topic swirling about after the Tar Heels embarrassing 48-14 lost to TCU last week.
The topic is only exacerbated due to Belichick's unlikely relationship with 24-year-old Jordon Hudson, which has been a source of distaste and often revulsion for North Carolina fans.
The scales these days are tipping Brady's way after he was able to win another Super Bowl with Tampa Bay.
Maybe Belichick can win a college championship to put him back in the running.
The Tar Heels handily beat Charlotte 20-3 in their second game. We'll see if Belichick can "do his job" and right the ship continuing his courtship with Ms. Hudson.

After hearing about the illegal migrant who got a CDL license in California and Washington and then caused an accident in Florida that killed three when he made an illegal U-turn in his tractor trailer on a Florida highway, it got me to thinking.
I can remember getting jobs growing up, and upon my hiring I would be asked to provide my social security card.
Is that not done anymore. Just wondering.
Here's what AI says:
"No, a job applicant does not need to have a Social Security Number (SSN) to be hired, but employers are required to have it for payroll and tax purposes to be able to legally employ someone. Employers should only request your SSN when necessary, such as for background checks, Form W-4 completion, or benefit enrollment. You are not legally obligated to provide your SSN on an application, but if a job requires it, the employer will need to collect it at some point in the hiring process to comply with the law. "
I still don't get it, because if the employer needs it to pay you, if you don't have it, that just begs the question, "How did he get paid?"
