Substation project gives CMP more outage options

LEBANON - Central Maine Power Co. workers continued their work on a substation on West Lebanon Road on Wednesday.

Groundwork began on the substation in December and construction now is nearly complete.

Electricians will be on hand for some time, however, getting everything ready for the installation do go on line this spring or summer.

The project is not specifically linked to the Maine Power Reliability Project, but a worker on site said the more substations you have like this one, the more options CMP has in the event of an outage.

“If you can move power in different ways (around the grid) it’s always better,” he said. The transformer on the right will handle 115,000 volts while the smaller one on the left will handle lower voltages, the worker said.

He said CMP is putting up an identical substation in Berwick.
