Memorial Day observances are brief and to the point.

Come together to honor our fallen soldiers who have died on the field of battle so that we might remain free.

Sometimes we may look around sadly at what our country has become and wonder, “Is it really worth it?”

We might look at the greed, the government corruption, the failed policies that have put this country into one of the longest downward economic spirals ever.

We might look at the government shutdowns, the ugly and petty partisanship that creates incredible inertia within government.

We might look at long, drawn-out wars in foreign lands that cost billions of dollars and thousands of our boys’ lives and say “Why?”

We might … but we don’t.

Why? Because anything worth having is worth fighting for.

Because anything wrong can be corrected.

Because anything is possible in this great country.

And why is anything possible?

Because our brave fighting men are willing to write a check up to and including their very life so that we do remain free.

So, please, before you crank up the grill and pop a beer, or shoot a round of golf, or plant your garden, take a few minutes today and attend your town’s observance of this most hallowed of holidays and give those who gave their all a tip of your cap and a reverent thank you.
