Teenager drowns when canoe capsizes at Raymond lake

RAYMOND - The New Hampshire State Police - Marine Patrol is investigating the death of a teenage boy at Governor's Lake in Raymond on Saturday.

First responder were dispatched around 11:55 p.m. to Governor's Lake in the area of Governors Drive after a 911 caller reported a canoe had flipped over.

The caller further stated that multiple teenagers had been in the canoe when it capsized, and one was now missing and believed to still be in the water, according to a State Police release sent Sunday.

After searching through the night the victim, a 15-year-old male, was located deceased around 8 a.m. just 30 feet from shore. The victim was not wearing a life jacket when he was found, safety officials said.

Marine Patrol has assumed the lead in the investigation.

While all aspects of the incident remain under investigation, at this time, investigators believe the death was accidental. The name of the victim is being withheld pending an autopsy by the New Hampshire Office of the Chief Medical Examiner scheduled for today.
