Transient gets 12 months on drug, body armor and resisting arrest charges

DOVER - A Rochester transient arrested in 2019 on charges of meth possession, felony wearing of body armor and resisting arrest pleaded guilty to those and several other charges on Thursday in Strafford County Superior Court.

Remy Lopez, 35, received a 12-month sentence for several drug possession charges, a probation violation and resisting arrest.

Lopez, who has already spent more than a year in jail, was released on time served and given a suspended prison sentence on the body armor charge, Assistant County Attorney Patrick Conroy said on Friday.

The other drug charges Lopez pleaded guilty to were from December 2018 and March 2019.

The Aug. 23, 2019, arrest unfolded after Rochester Police got a call from a witness who said they saw a group of individuals on Lafayette Street talking about beating someone up and noticed one was holding a weapon.

When Rochester Police arrived at the scene around 3 p.m. they found a male fitting the description given by the caller.

"The male noticed police and began walking away," Rochester Police Capt. Todd Pinkham said shortly after the arrest. "Police then noticed the male was wearing a holster, and he was ordered to stop."

Pinkham said the male continued walking away and tried to flee inside a residence, but police quickly caught up with him and he was detained.

The man was identified as Lopez, who was also found to be wearing body armor and in possession of a firearm reported stolen to police earlier that month.

As Lopez was taken into custody he was also found to be in possession of controlled drugs.

He was charged with felon in possession of a dangerous weapon (Felony), receiving stolen property (Felony), felonious use of body armor (Felony), possession of controlled drugs x3 and resisting arrest/detention (misdemeanor).
