UPDATED: 9 hurt in Christmas crash on Rt 202

LEBANON - Nine motorists were injured, one seriously, after an SUV and a pickup truck collided head-on the area of Route 202 and Stokewood Drive around 6 p.m. Christmas night.

The collision led to more motorists becoming involved in the crash as two vehicles following the pickup also crashed trying to avoid the accident scene.

The most seriously injured victims were in the SUV, which was headed west toward Rochester when the collision occurred, said Lebanon Fire Assistant Chief Dan Roy today. He said the female victim, the driver, was extricated first using the Jaws of Life and transported by ambulance to Maine Medical Center in Portland. The passenger, whose injuries were more severe, took longer to free. After he was extricated, he had to be treated for pain before being rushed to Skydive New England where he was Medflighted to Maine Medical Center. Both of the most seriously injured victims in the SUV were said to be middle-aged.

No other ages or any hometowns were available.

When responders first arrived one car was on fire, which was quickly extinguished, according to Lebanon Rescue Deputy Chief Kevin Romano.

The other victims were transported to Frisbie Memorial Hospital, Biddeford Medical Center and Southern Maine Medical Center in Sanford.

Three refused patient transport.

Responders on scene included Northeast Mobile Health Services, North Berwick Rescue, Sanford Fire Department and Frisbie EMS. Lebanon Rescue 1, Rescue 2 and EMS 1 responded at the Paramedic Level.
