Vegan diets a little too green for me

With all the food plans available it’s hard to pick what will work best. What will work fastest? The latest craze is Vegan. What is Vegan? Fairly certain a Vegan was a Star Trek character.

Then I realized you can’t turn on TV without Vegan cook shows and talk shows. To educate myself, I ran a Google search. Vegans do not eat animal products at all!

Including but not limited to milk, cheese, eggs, and any product from which these items were derived. This also includes processed foods like white sugar and even some wines. The way I see it, if it flies, walks or swims you cannot eat it. In other words you can only eat it, if it can’t get away.

This narrows the selection to mainly plants. There are many reasons to go Vegan. I guess most do for humanitarian reasons. True Vegans also avoid wearing leather, fur and wool, but I wonder how they stay warm in the winter.

That might be noble in some way. But with spring’s warmth and my garden, I think back to my last harvest: how I lovingly planted those little plants, watered and talked them to fruition and had the most delectable salads.

I would only serve them with the best dressing. The cucumbers and lettuce welcomed the water and the love and were amazingly delicious. My longest relationship was with the brussel sprouts as they lasted until November, giving forth the sweetest lil old brussel sprouts you’ve ever tasted. Oh yes they taunted and stalled, but with the first frost, roll out the real butter and the green veggie party was here.

I wonder if the Vegans have ever grown their own food. It’s hard to say good bye, even to a plant.

I believe the human body needs a certain amount of fats as we are carnivorous and that’s that. Yes cutting out all fats and animal products will result in less calories and quicker weight loss. But I’m not so sure that is the right choice for me. Cutting down on red meat and processed meats is a start. Attempting to become a Vegan takes a great deal of care and study. I would still have to manage to get those proteins in and whey shakes and tofu are not my speed.

Affirmation: Every day I wake rested and healthier.
