ROCHESTER - Vern Charles Merrihew Jr., 82, of Rochester, died peacefully on Oct. 21, 2022, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Lebanon, N.H., on Aug. 1, 1940, to Vern Sr and Violet (Bernard) Merrihew.

Vern has lived and raised his family in Rochester for the past 53 years. He served in the Air Force for eight years before being employed as an automotive mold maker for over 30 years.

Everyone would say Vern was a quiet person, but also loved a good conversation. He was an active, hardworking, happy guy who loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed riding motorcycles with his sons and grandsons, and also many other outdoor activities including hunting, fishing, and camping.

Vern is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Patricia (Austin) Merrihew of Rochester, his sons; Vern Merrihew III and his wife Joanne of New Durham, Michael Merrihew and his wife Kelley of Rochester, his daughter Tammy Sawyer and her husband Guy of Rochester. His grandchildren; Shane, Chase, Tyler, Emalee, Kaitlin, and Jessica. His great grandchildren; Ella, Alec, Lacey, Bentley, and Paisley, his step grandchildren; Erica, Jayson, and Dana, his step great grandchildren; Elijah and Leo. Vern was predeceased by his younger sister Rita Brown of Washington state.
