DOVER - The 28-year-old Farmington woman shot by police in Dover Sunday morning was trying to die of copicide, according to a police affidavit.
The incident unfolded around 1:30 a.m. when State Police attempted to make a traffic stop on a southbound car on Route 16 being driven by Moriah Infinjer.
Infinjer refused to stop, leading police on a 100 mph chase, which ended near the Rochester-Dover line where troopers had deployed a spike strip.
Infinjer then stepped out of her vehicle "holding a dark object in her hands," according to the affidavit released Monday. When she refused to drop the object and allegedly pointed it at police, a trooper fired five shots, hitting her in the shoulder.
Officials have not disclosed what the object was.
Police later talked to Infinjer at a local hospital where she said she wanted officers to open fire saying she was suicidal, the affidavit states.
Infinjer faces several charges, including reckless conduct and criminal threatening. She was arraigned Monday morning and arrived at Strafford County Jail Tuesday night, where she is being held on preventative detention.
Copicide is a slang term for suicide by cop or police-assisted suicide.
Meanwhile, the investigation by the New Hampshire Department of Justice into the shooting is ongoing, and the identity of the trooper using deadly force will not be disclosed until a formal interview takes place this week.
