MILTON - A Massachusetts woman and two children in the car with her were seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash on Route 16 on Friday afternoon, an afternoon that saw a slew of accidents on the busy vacationer-filled highway amid heavy June traffic.

According to a New Hampshire State Police press release received by The Lebanon Voice today, the investigation into the most serious crash revealed that a 2003 Volkswagen Jetta operated by Emily Baker, 20, of Milton Mills, was northbound on Route 16 around 3:20 p.m. when a 2005 Toyota Camry driven by Besim Myshqeri, 44, of Braintree, Mass, driving just ahead of her slowed, possibly due to an accident scene ahead.

State Police investigators said it appeared that the operator of the Toyota Camry was either stopped or slowing to a stop in traffic due to a prior crash in the area of Exit 18, and that Baker may have failed to see the traffic conditions and crashed into the rear of the Toyota Camry driving off the roadway into the woods.

Also in the Toyota were Elena Myshqeri, 49, Matthew Myshqeri, 9, Suljon Myshqeri, 11, all from Braintree.

Elena Myshqeri was transported by Med-Flight from the scene to Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine, with life-threatening injuries and later transported to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. Besim Myshqeri, Matthew Myshqeri and Suljon Myshqeri were all transported to Frisbee Hospital in Rochester. Besim Myshqeri was treated for what appeared to be minor injuries, while Suljon Myshqeri and Matthew Myshqeri were evaluated and then also transferred to Mass General with serious and possibly life-threatening injuries.

Suljan Myshqueri was reported in critical condition this morning, while Matthew was reported in fair condition and Elena Myshqeri was in good conditions, according to a Mass General Hospital spokeman.

Baker was not injured in the crash.

Rescue crews used an extrication tool to remove Elena Myshqeri and one of the children from the vehicle.

The accident involving Baker and the Myshqeris was the third in a series of collisions that occurred in the same vicinity of Route 16 on Friday afternoon.

The three accidents closed the road between the two Milton exits for a period of time.

The first accident, which happened near Exit 18 around 3 p.m., was minor. While safety officials were on scene, a three-vehicle collision was reported just in front of the first accident. In that accident, two were transported to Frisbie Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.

The third accident, which involved the Myshqeris, occurred a half-mile south of the first accident.

While Route 16 was closed between Exits 17 and 18 for several hours, vehicles were detoured through Milton. By around 9 p.m. the roadway had reopened.

Ambulances from Middleton, Wakefield, Farmington, Milton, and Acton and Lebanon, Maine, responded to the Myshqueri accident.

State police are currently investigating all three of the crashes. Anyone with additional information is asked to call Trooper Chris Storm at 603-223-8607 or email at christopher.storm@dos.nh.gov.
