The Franklin Gallery at RiverStones Custom Framing will host an exhibit during the month of April called "The Parabolics," featuring the work of local artist Bob Farrell. An opening reception will be held on Thursday, from 5-6:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend and meet the artist and view his work. Light refreshments will be served.
Farrell is an abstract artist who has been creating art for more than 20 years. He not only uses acrylics and oils in his paintings, but also uses a lot of unusual things to create art such as tar, house paint, spray paint and fabric pigments.
"Being creative helps me to express myself and my ideas. Art also helps me to re-invent ways we see places and spaces and for others to use their imagination. I create art so people can use their imaginations," says Farrell. "I give a piece a title, but it's up to the viewer to discern what they see. I often hear new thoughts on my art that helps me strive to continue.
"I use many materials in my art, but only after looking at them for a long time. I try to find out what it is saying to me and how can I use that to relay my ideas."
Farrell says that his art poses questions, and it is his hope that the viewer can see the answers within his art.
Farrell has been working and evolving into an artist for many years. He began painting surreal but has since gravitated to abstract paintings and sculptures. He has exhibited his work in several galleries in New England and New York City.
RiverStones Custom Framing and the Franklin Gallery are located at 33 N.
