Southern Maine Garden Club (SMGC) met for a special workshop on Wednesday, December 11th, that was taught by cake decorator and creative person extraordinaire Mary Ann Kane, from South Berwick.

Mary Stewart-Dore, SMGC President and some friends, did a lot of prep work by cutting down in advance all kinds of greenery, holly, pinecones on her nearby land for the club members to use.  There was balsam, arborvitae, spruce, cedar, scotch pine, as well as holly and winterberries.  Different members also brought in ribbon, candles, birds and other decorative ornaments to add to their masterpieces.  At the end, everyone had a beautiful centerpiece to grace their holiday tables and impress their family and friends.

SMGC meets throughout the year at the Springvale Library on the third Wednesday of every month beginning at 6:45 PM (unless otherwise noted).  The public is invited to attend to sample our meetings to see if you would like to join us.    The next scheduled meeting on the 3rd Wednesday of the month will be on January 15th and the presentation will be on conservation in our communities. It will take place at the Springvale Library at 443 Main Street, Springvale, ME; at 6:45 PM and all are invited.  FMI about future meetings, please contact in ME – Mary Stewart-Dore at 207-490-1833 or in NH – Donna Claveau at 603-332-4860.
